The calculator estimates propane usage in gallons and pounds based on either a known consumption rate (Simple Method) or generator size and load (Detailed Method), factoring in runtime and reserve time.
Simple Method: Total Propane (lbs) = Consumption Rate (lbs/hr) × Total Time (hr)
Detailed Method: Total Propane (gallons) = (BTU/hr × Load % × Total Time) ÷ 92000

For a 5000W generator at 50% load, running for 10 hours with a 0.5-hour reserve:
Total Time = 10 + 0.5 = 10.5 hours
BTU/hr = 100,000 × 0.5 = 50,000 BTU/hr
Total BTU = 50,000 × 10.5 = 525,000 BTU
Total Propane (gallons) = 525,000 ÷ 92,000 = 5.71 gallons
Total Propane (lbs) = 5.71 × 4.2 = 23.98 lbs
For Simple Method with 2 lbs/hr: Total Propane = 2 × 10.5 = 21 lbs (5 gallons)
